Coral Bay
is a well known fishing and snorkeling location which
is quite small, yet incredibly popular. The town didn't even have
complete electricity run to it until 2007, but today has proper power
lines and all. The town itself is incredibly small, with only a tiny
grocery store, a single petrol station two caravan parks, a backpacks
and a resort. It is however, not a place that you visit for the
accommodation!
There are a number of things that you need to take
to this remote location, and generally the more that you take up with
you the more money that you will save. Of course, full on consumables
like bread and milk need to be purchased on a day to day basis when you
are at Coral bay, but in terms of almost all of your other food you
should take it with you!
you need to take any equipment required
Other than food, you need to take any
equipment required for your accommodation, along with anything that you
plan on doing for leisure activities. I would suggest a good fishing
rod, lots of tackle and bait and also your snorkeling gear. If you have a
boat, take it up as they are a lot of fun. There is so much diving and
fishing to do up there, so make sure you remember the gear that you
need. A lot of people go fishing around the bay without any bait, so
make sure you have a number of lures to use as replacement. In terms of
fuel, you need to ensure you have enough fuel to last at least 500km
intervals, but you can do it for less durations if you need to. Fuel at
coral bay is more expensive, but it's usually not worth taking the fuel
up with you as the added weight will reduce our fuel economy.
What
you can easily gather from this is that it is a long drive, expensive
in fuel, accommodation and the facilities are not amazing. However,
that's not the reason that you visit Coral Bay. The reason you visit
Coral Bay is for the stunning snorkeling, world class fishing, amazing
tours, incredible beaches and just to relax. It is remote, but that's
where the best fish are caught! Snorkeling is truly incredible, with so
many different fish and a huge variety of coral too.
