You have always wanted to go to South America and you now have the opportunity to do so. The million dollar question here is - where to go?
Which countries do I visit? Where do I look to find the top places to visit in that vast array of countries that make up South America? Your best bet is to consult with an experienced, quality tour company, one that specialises in tours on that continent, and who are passionate about the people and the place.
Once you have decided on which tour company you are going to go with, you can sit down with them to discuss your options. There is so much to choose from but it would be hard to go past the fabulous city of Buenos Aires to start your journey. You will love this elegant city with its European vibe and South American energy. Marvel at the eight-lane boulevards with statues of horses and famous generals on every corner and shop till you drop in their designer boutiques. Visit the Recoleta cemetery - you could spend a whole day in there, - it's a small city in itself. Have your photo taken with the twenty assorted dogs on leads, all being walked by one dog-walker! Restaurants (with delicious steaks) are plentiful and cheap - yes, definitely start with Buenos Aires.
Not to be outdone is the sizzling city of Rio de Janeiro, another South American city full of beautiful people. Rio is flanked by blue mountains, white sand beaches and verdant rainforests, fronting the deep blue sea. From the world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema to the open-air cafes and bars in the city, there is so much to see and do here.
The Iguacu River forms the boundary between Argentina and Brazil so you can access the amazing Iguacu Falls from either of these countries. You can walk the trails around the falls, go in the picturesque train, take a boat ride or best of all power upstream in semi-rigid rafts to experience the falls from below - a truly thrilling experience that you will love.
Venture to the extreme south of Argentina to marvel at the majestic glaciers and on to Tierra del Fuego at the very bottom of the world. And, last but not least, travel to the sacred valley of the Incas and the magnificent ruins at Machu Picchu, staying in the great Inca city of Cusco in Peru.
