Scotland, One of Best places to visit in the UK

Scothland map, one of best place to visit in uk
Coming from Scotland originally, Scotland for me is one of the best places to go for a holiday in the UK. If you enjoy holidaying in the UK and usually go to Wales or England why not give Scotland a try? Admittedly the weather outside of the summer months can be temperamental and worse but if you have luck on your side then you can enjoy many a sunny day in Scotland. Scotland promises castles and whisky trails, wild scenery and friendly locals. Many visitors to Scotland head for the Highlands which is undoubtedly a beautiful part of Scotland but there are so many beautiful areas in Scotland. From Loch Lomond, the Trossachs, the north east coast to the Isle of Skye, there is plenty to leave you spellbound in bonny Scotland.

Scotland has a wealth of stunning natural scenery and wildlife to make for a truly enjoyable holiday. Enjoy walks by lochs and valleys or through green forests. Breathe in the fresh air of Scotland. Look out for deer or eagles, you may just see one. Or if you are an avid wildlife watcher then head for the Scottish islands for a bit of whale watching in season.

The Scottish Highlands attract numerous tourists each year. The attractions of Loch Ness continue to draw the crowds. Fort William is a good base for exploring the Highlands. Inverness is good for a day trip but not somewhere I would recommend for a longer stay. If you enjoy hiking then the Cairngorms will no doubt be a calling to you. It is even possible to ski at the Cairngorms, weather permitting, in the winter.

The Isle of Skye for me is the jewel of Scotland. The road from the Highlands to the Isle of Skye is brimful with stunning scenery. Stop off at amazing Eilean Donan castle and learn a bit about Scottish history. Visit Portree and Staffin in the Isle of Skye. Be mesmerised by the coastal scenery on the Isle of Skye which has inspired so many artists. If you are feeling adventurous then why not take a whale watching or seal watching boat trip. Elgol and the surrounding area in my experience hold the best opportunities for spotting stags. Sea eagles can often be spotted around Staffin. From our personal experience we found the boat trips from Elgol the best for spotting whales.

Hailing from the North East of Scotland I must make a special mention of Aberdeenshire. Aberdeenshire has castles galore and an attractive and interesting coastline. Small fishing villages like Cruden Bay and Collieston are full of charm and character. Or travel further along the coast and visit Pennan, another beautiful village.

Wherever you go in Scotland, whether you head for the soulful Scottish countryside or spend time in the capital city of Edinburgh, you will be hard pressed not to fall in love with Scotland. Click for more Area guide information on the UK and beyond.
